This wonderful article by Cockburn discusses why the software engineering model does not fit how we do software development. He describes how software development is better described as a cooperative game. I loved this article because I view team software development as something akin to a sport. The stories made me laugh out loud and cry in my coffee. http://alistair.cockburn.us/crystal/articles/teoseatsoecg/theendofsoftwareengineering.htm
I am already a fan of Craig Larman (Applying UML and Patterns) but his book, Agile and Iterative Development—A Manager's Guide, is another reason to love this guy. http://www.craiglarman.com/
